Gran Turismo is the best selling PS1 game, but is it the best? Non-car enthusiasts will probably not care for the game, but for car people, this game was revolutionary and changed the genre forever. What are your thoughts?

Google+ and Twitter Integration

I am pleased to announce that users can now register and integrate their Google+ and Twitter accounts with LostConsoles.com. New members will be able to register using their favorite social network, and existing members can add their social network account to their forum account for more features. These features vary by which social network you integrate, but examples include transferring your profile picture, and posting status updates via LostConsoles.com. Users can integrate all 3 social networks to their forum account if they wish. Simply visit your profile and look for the links in the sidebar.

Facebook Integration

I am pleased to announce that member's Facebook accounts can be integrated with Lost Consoles. New users can choose to register with their Facebook account instead of filling out a form. Their username is derived from their name on Facebook, and the password is the same as their Facebook password. Current users can go to their Profile and click "Associate account with Facebook". This allows members to use their Facebook picture as their forum avatar, invite Facebook friends to join the forum, post status updates directly from Lost Consoles, and if permission is granted, Lost Consoles with automatically post user activity on a members Facebook timeline.

Integration with social networks is a critical part of Lost Consoles marketing strategy. The power, flexibility, and popularity of social networks like Facebook allow many opportunities to serve people from all over the world. I will continue to integrate more social networks as the integration becomes available, such as Twitter and Google+.

If anyone encounters problems with the Facebook integration please post a new topic in the Support forum. Thanks!

Where and Why We Collect Personal Information Online
Currently Lost Consoles collects personal information from the following:

Community Forum
When an individual registers for our community forum they are required to provide their name, email address, and password. This information allows us to deliver services to them in a secure manner and enables them to change their preferences associated with the forum. We also ask subscribers for additional information, which is not required to participate in the forum. The purpose of gathering this optional information is twofold: 1) with a greater understanding of our users we can develop services even better suited to the needs of our subscribers and 2) to generate a statistical profile of all subscribers that is shared with users of said forum. Note that Lost Consoles will not sell or share your email address or individual information with any third party.
When a subscriber cancels his or her subscription, that individual's personal information (name and email address) will be deleted from our membership database. Any posts the user has elected to make, however, will still have the personal information they provided displayed. This is to ensure accountability for all content on our forum. If a user wishes to delete their posts, they may do so before canceling their subscription.

Donations and Charter Membership
When a visitor purchases a Charter Membership or makes a donation to Lost Consoles, our third-party merchant service provider collects personal information in order to validate billing. Of this information, email address, name and shipping address are made available to Lost Consoles. This information is used to verify buyers' identity and to resolve delinquent accounts.

Email sent to us
When you send us an email you provide us with your name and email address, along with any other information you provide in the body of your email. This information may be shared with persons outside of Lost Consoles only when they are required to receive this information in order to respond effectively to your query. We retain all email correspondence indefinitely in order to improve our services according to customer feedback.

Browser Cookies
Cookies are small text files transferred to your hard drive by a web server. Because cookies only contain text, they cannot transmit a virus or damage your system. They are commonly used to determine return visitors to a site, record your preferences, shopping cart, registration information, pages viewed or items purchased.
Lost Consoles only uses cookies to allow users to maintain a logged in state when accessing Lost Consoles web services or private areas. No personal information is involved in providing this feature.
You should have the option to set your browser to either accept cookies openly, to notify you before accepting cookies, or to refuse cookies altogether.

Confidentiality
By accepting of a position on the SMF Team, every volunteer at Lost Consoles is also accepting our "Core Values" and signs a CLA, which ensures the confidential handling of information. This agreement demonstrates our commitment, both collectively and as individuals, to protecting the confidentiality of information held by the company, including specifically, "customer information."

Limitation of Liability
Complete confidentiality and security is not yet possible over the Internet. Internet use and communication is subject to interception, loss and alteration. On whichever site you provide personal information, it is possible for a third party to view that information. It is not surprising, for example, that messages to newsgroups have resulted in unsolicited email from spammers. You acknowledge and agree that Lost Consoles shall not be responsible for any damages you may suffer as a result of the transmission of confidential or sensitive information over the Internet, and that all such communications will be at your own risk.

I have added new category icons to the forum. Each category is now more easily identified without even reading the name. An icon that represents each console category will now show up to the left of each category instead of the default icons.

Also worth noting, the icons will not change when a category has new posts. This feature was useful if a user quickly wanted to see if a forum had new posts since their last visit. I have decided to get rid of this feature because it required 2 different icons for each category, and that last post topic, author, and date are available from the index page so a user could use that to determine if new posts were made. Also, a user has the ability to select "View new posts since last visit" from the top of the forum. Basically, the new vs old post icon system is not needed anymore so I felt no reason to keep it.

Respect System

Lost Consoles uses a unique Respect System. Members are allowed to rate other members by giving or taking respect points. The higher the points, the more valuable and trustworthy a member is. New members start out even, with no positive or negative points. Members who have posted at least 5 posts (Leecher rank and above) are allowed to give and take respect points.

Respect points can be viewed under a members username in topics, or in the users profile. You can add or subtract respect in topics, using the links Positive and Negative below the username. Members are allowed to add/subtract respect only once per hour.

There is no punishment or reward for respect points. For example, if a user has -50 respect points the forum staff will not ban or prevent the user from posting as long as posts follow the rules. Or if a user has 100 respect points, they do not earn any special privileges. The respect system is simply a way to rate fellow members. Other members that view the respect points will automatically know if they are trustworthy and respected, or dishonest and foolish.
